Males are considerably larger than females and have a distinguishing feature, a gorgeous mane. When an adult roars, the terrifying sound of it can be heard up to five miles away. It warns off possible intruders. Females do almost all the hunting for the pride.

Nicknamed the Kings of the Jungle, these animals are very strong, powerful and dignified. They are the largest African carnivores. These are the only cats that live in prides, special social groups, which vary in number of animals. The social group consists of dominant males, females, and cubs. The african lion female not only gives birth to babies but also does almost all of the hunting for the pride.
