As the black market still works, the parts of the body of these animals are still required and being sold. Conservation efforts fail to cope with the onslaught of poachers much because wildlife departments are too scattered and understaffed to make up an effective barrier in poachers’ way. If we fail to counteract this grave tendency in the foreseeable future, we may lose these unique animals in less than 50 years.
