The cubs are born stripped and weight about 3 pounds. They are usually wined at 4-6 months. These little kittens join their mothers on the hunt from the time they are 8 weeks old. When they are 16 months old they are able to feed themselves. They become fully independent at 1.5 years old. Females mature by age of 3 years, and males achieve puberty by 4 years of age. Males maintain home ranges covering 20 to 200 miles, depending on how much food is available. Females have smaller home ranges, and they are overlapped by those of males.

These animals live in several lairs, in one of them the female gives birth to the cub. The majority of cubs are born between February and May. The female give birth usually to 1-4 cubs. The young are born blind. More often than not, one kitten dies in infancy. Cubs are born helpless and need permanent protection from predators and cold weather. Pregnant females take up residence in hollows, in densely vegetated places or in large rock crevices. Males do not participate in raising the young.
