Females of this species reach sexual maturity at the age of 3, males are mature at 4 years. The average life span of this species is 10-15 years in the wild and up to 20 years in captivity. They breed well in captivity, but in the wild the species is endangered. Usually, there are 2-4 cubs in a litter, but one or two die at birth. The cubs live on mother’s milk for about 7 weeks and then they are introduced to adult food. When they are 8 weeks old, the mother begins to teach them to hunt. By age of 6 months they can kill small and medium-sized game. These animals are capable of sneaking up to game and pinning it to the ground by aid of their muscles and heavy weight. They become independent at the age of 1-1.5 years.
