Black bear diet is various in different habitats and conservation efforts are aimed at preserving them, as well as keeping the species away from farms. Late summer and fall is the best time when berries, fruits, acorns and nuts are available. It is uncommon for these animals to hunt, but they eat lemmings, mice and other small mammals if manage to catch them. Occasionally this species prey young moose, deer and domestic cattle. This species is omnivorous, its food vary seasonally and by locality.
