The animal has a higher tolerance to low temperatures than domestic cattle, and therefore exhibit greater winter hardiness. They have got a highly structured social "pecking" order that is determined by seniority in the herd, size, and age. They live longer than domestic cattle.

These are herd animals. In the wild, they will form separate herds or bachelor groups and join with the cowherd only during the breeding season. These animals raised domestically will not separate by gender, and will remain in the same herd throughout the year.
