Nowadays the animals are found in Canada, Alaska, in the Cascades Range, the Rocky Mountain Range, and Great Lakes Region. In Europe they are found in Spain and Portugal. Mostly these animals inhabit boreal forest ecosystem (taiga), sub alpine forest.
