The habitat of these animals is dry savanna and woodland areas, arid or semi-dessert locations. The animals can survive for long periods without water; they get water from the metabolic moisture of its prey. The animals can be found in the Middle East and Southern Asia up to India.

The animal resembles the Lynx in appearance and they have dark tufts on the large, pointed ears. The animals have a slim body. The legs are thin and the tail is very long; longer than the Lynx has. African caracal can raid a farm and kill cattle babies.
