One of the races of the European bobcat is called the Felis isabellinus looks unspotted when in their thick winter coat, but show indistinct spots on the underparts in summer. The Spanish bobcat, Felis pardina, has a yellowish-red coat and white underparts, is clearly spotted in black.

The other name of the animal is Bobcat and there are three varieties of these animals: Canadian, Eurasian and Spanish. The original bobcats were much larger than at present and have perhaps reduced in size as a result of competition with early puma species.
