These felines are concentrated in South Asia and hunt near open water. They have strong paws with semi-retractable claws and are excellent swimmers and divers. They are also adept at climbing trees and fences and can be a sheer trouble for farmers.

This feline has a robust body about the size of a Basset Hound, strong legs, large head and relatively short tail, which is thick at the base. The coat consists of two layers and occurs in longitudinal patterns of dark spots. Asian fishing cat hunting is banned; babies of these cats are difficult to keep as pets.
