These animals weigh up to 8,000 pounds. They measure up to five feet tall at the shoulder and two and a half feet tall at the top of the leg. They are about fourteen feet long. The eyes and nostrils of these animals are set high on top of the head, which allows the hippo to lay submerged underwater for long periods of time, watching the surroundings.
