As a rule these animals are orange-brown with dark brown or black vertical stripes. There are patches of white fur between the stripes and on their stomachs. Stripes on the coat are a good camouflage that helps tigers to get close to prey when they are hunting. White species also have stripes, and they are not albinos. They are very rare in the wild, and only occur once per every 10,000 births. They have been bred in zoos and attract millions of visitors, but years of inbreeding has undermined their health and they have a shorter life span.
