The coat of these creatures is short and glossy. It is very expensive, so the poaching for pelts is a very serious threat for the species. It is still widespread in Africa, especially in Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, but the population has decreased greatly.

The whole coat of these animals is covered with brown or black rosettes; the head and legs have black markings. No two animals have the same coat pattern; every one is individual. Sometimes these found black animals with black rosettes. A leopard spot looks wonderful on photos; babies have lighter coats.
