These animals have long, lighter-colored legs with the front pair longer than the hind ones. Their other distinctive features include a long nose, drooping lip, hump at the shoulders and small tail. The animal’s hair is hollow, making it a great insulator against the cold climate.

These animals are found on the wooded hillsides of the rocky western mountain ranges, along the margins of ponds, lakes and rivers of the boreal forest, swamps, and bogs and also on the northern tundra.
