Thousands of years ago, the African lion lived in parts of Europe, Asia, India, and Africa, but today the only naturally occurring lions are African lions and they are rapidly diminishing. African lions live in African savannahs and feed on a variety of large to medium-sized prey with wildebeest or gnu being preferred meat although they eat other animals. African lions are the only cats that live in large family groups and they hunt as a group, too.
