Elk are the 2nd largest deer family members and predominantly reside in the Rockies in high, open mountain meadows in summer and lower, wooded areas in winter. Elk are nocturnal animals that graze on woody vegetation and lichen. Thick neck, brown/tan color coat with darker underbody characterizes Elk. The antlers are branched and reach up to 150 cm long. Its hooves are rounder than deer or moose. Mountain lions and bears are its main predators.
