Fallow deer are native to Europe and Mesopotamia. There are only two species of fallow deer: European and the larger Mesopotamian. Their healthy nature, and tender mild tasting meat induced some to farm it as "biblically clean" meat and to serve it as a royals' finest. They have white, spotted (light or dark) and almost black coats and palmated moose-like antlers. As livestock they are adaptable, easy on pastures, easy to herd, and good natured.
