Common to Australia, New Guinea, and Tasmania, kangaroos dwell in groups called "mobs." These shy marsupials can defend themselves by boxing or kicking. Kangaroos hop up to 40 mph and up to 30 feet. Their tail steers and balances; their short arms move in a circular manner. Oddly, kangaroo legs do not move backward or independently. Primarily destructive vegetarians, Kangaroos need very little water surviving up to months without drinking.
