Moose meaning "eater of twigs" is a huge member of the deer family and is also called Wapati by Native Americans. European and Asians commonly refer to these animals as elk. Long legs, overhanging upper lip/muzzle, drooping fold of skin from the throat (bell,) large shoulder hump and large ears characterize moose. Its coat is brownish-black with a lighter brown face. It easily wades or swims through water with powerful legs.
