Porcupines are known for their coat of sharp quills that defends them from predators. These rodents live in forests, deserts and grasslands of Asia, Italy, Africa and the Americas. Their body length is about 60-90 cm, with a 20-25 cm long tail. Old World Porcupines are fairly large and terrestrial; New World species are mostly smaller and are excellent climbers. Porcupines come in brown, grey, and sometimes in white.
