Reindeer are concentrated in northern Russia and Scandinavian countries. All attempts to introduce them in Alaska or Canada failed, but reindeer and Caribou do have much in common. Both males and females of the two species have antlers, and bulls use them to fight mating competitors and attract cows.

Both reindeer and Caribou have deciduous antlers that are replaced every year. By the time the horns harden (August), bulls start rutting rut and become aggressive and protective around females.
