These animals were domesticated about 2,000 years ago. Indigenous peoples of northern regions have long since found common ground with the animal, which still serves as a source of food, clothing material and a means of transportation. They can pull loads twice their own weight.

Rangifer Tarandus can be found in Scandinavian countries and northern Russia. They have a very thick double-coat with dense undercoat and hollow upper coat, and therefore, they do perfectly well in harsh arctic conditions. Their broad hooves facilitate their movement in deep snow.
