The little animals are fed on their mother’s milk for 6-8 weeks and they do not start hunting until they are 1.5 years old. They always hunt with their mother and stay with her for 2-2.5 years until they get their own places for hunting and start to hunt alone. These felines achieve full puberty by 3-4 years old, and the life span of wild animals is about 15 years. Captive felines may live more than 20 years, because zoos provide balanced and regular diet. However, captive animals may not survive in the wild, because they are not as adept at hunting as their wild counterparts.

The period of mating takes place in winter and the female usually looks for the male herself and the period of gestation lasts 3-5 months. There are usually 3-4 babies that are born blind. Males do not stay with one particular female and do not take part in raising the young. They may even kill cubs if they are the offspring of another male. Therefore, females are very aggressive in defending their young and chase everything and everyone daring to approach the lair.
