The males are usually more aggressive than the females and they will always protect their territory and fight the intruder if it is also a male, but if the intruder is a female and yet with the little cubs the male will never touch it. Indeed, these felines prefer not to trespass on each others’ territories, and fights between them are not common. Nursing females can be very suspicious of males that get dangerously close to the cubs, and usually chase them violently away from the lair. Cubs are born in spring, after the gestation period of 103 days, and they are born blind and helpless.

As these animals are solitary ones so they hunt also alone, males and females. Each one has its own territory and they both mark their territories the same, by spraying their urine and scratching trees. Usually males defend their territory and females do not. Males maintain large home ranges that may cover up to 200 square miles. The size of the territory depends on how available food is.
