The scientific name of tigers is Pantera Tigris. There are 8 species of tigers known, but only 5 of them survived the 20th century: the Siberian (or Amur,) the Bengal, the Sumatrian, the South Chinese, and the Indo-Chinese species. The Caspian, the Javan and the Balinese are extinct. The Siberian species is the largest cat in the world. Their body length ranges from 140 to 280 cm. Males weight up to 300 kg and females reach up to 160 kg. The coat pattern is similar in all tigers, only sometimes white animals occur.
