All captive animals with such a rare coat color are the descendants of the male named Mohad that was caught in India in the 1950’s. The recessive gene determines such color and to produce a cub with unusual coloration both parents should carry this gene. Some orange animals have one allele for orange color and one for creamy color. If it is impossible to find two animals with rare coloration, breeders find an orange animal with one allele for creamy coloring. Some of their cubs will be orange, but some will possess rare coloring. The main problem connected with breeding animals with an unusual color is that the gene responsible for such a color is somehow linked to a number of genetical disorders.
